Tutorial 7 Adobe Photoshop CS 3 – Tools Part IV (Drawing, Type, Annotation, Measuring and Navigation Tools)

It’s time to talk about the rest of the Adobe Photoshop CS 3 tools: drawing, type, annotation, measuring and navigation tools.

Drawing and Type Tools

The path selection tool makes shape or segment selections showing anchor points, direction points and direction lines. Right click the button on the tools palette to choose either the path selection tool or the direct selection tool.

The Type tools allow you to write text on an image. You can choose from the horizontal type tool and vertical type tool. Choose the font, color and then click on the image where you want to place the text.

The type mark tools create a selection in the shape of the type. You can select either the horizontal or the vertical type mark tool. The buttons are located in the same place as the type tools (see fig 2)

The pen tools let you draw smooth-edge paths. The shape tools and the line tool draw shapes and lines, while the custom shape tool allows you to choose one of the numerous shapes and add it to an image.

Annotation, Measuring and Navigation Tools

The annotation tool makes notes and audible annotations that can be attached to an image.

The eyedropper tool samples colors in an image

The ruler tool measures locations angles and distances. Right click the same button as above and choose the ruler tool

The Hand tool moves an image within its window, while the zoom tool magnetizes and reduces the view of an image.
