Microsoft August Security Updates
15-aug-2007
Microsoft has just released its August security bulletin: six critical and three important vulnerabilities in Office, Windows and other software.
It's time for the August security bulletin. All six critical updates patch problems that would allow for remote code execution. Among them,  one patch is  for Microsoft XML Core Services and two are for Internet Explorer. Another patch fixes a problem in Visual Basic. Another Office patch is related to Excel, the bulletin fixing a problem that could allow an attacker to exploit the application if a malicious file was downloaded. The sixth critical update fixes a problem is Windows Graphics Rendering Engine.

The important updates fix problems in Windows Media Player, while another important patch is Vista exclusive. It deals with Vista's "gadgets", which could lead to remote code execution. The patch fixes the bugs in the Weather, RSS Feed and Contacts gadgets. The last important patch fixes a problem in Microsoft Virtual Server or Virtual PC.
